Haithabu

Haithabu was, in the time of the vikings, one of the most important settlements in Northern Europe. Here met the trade routes from distant parts. UnTill modern times the former settlement, with nearly 1000 inhabitants, was surrounded by a semi-circular rampart at the Haddebyer Noor.

The Wikinger-Museum Haithabu has been modelled on the ships of the vikings.

Many discoveries about the early history of this settlement show the everyday life of the vikings and their craftmanship but household and domesticities, food, clothes  and jewellery, religion and funeral customs are also themes within the exhibition.
